OUR MISSION STATEMENTTo work closely with The Wheelchair Football Association to provide players with the best mechanical football play devices, for safe enjoyable play of football, as close as possible to able-bodied player rules. All the profit generated from the supply of ball play devices is re-invested in the game for the benefit of the players. Please see the following page on the company founder's background. INTRODUCTIONWheelchair Football, ideally played indoors in a sports hall, on a 5-a-side pitch, with smooth hard floors or on any smooth, level play area, i.e. unused car park or playground. Teams can be made up of players in any type of standard wheelchair, manually propelled, power assisted or battery powered. All chairs can be fitted with ball play devices, either as attachments on players *own wheelchairs, conversions to pre-used wheelchairs or special B(Ball)-Chairs. (Note* - players must obtain permission for NHS and charity owned wheelchairs - see page headed Statement: Safety, etc.) There are two sets of game rules as two types of ball are used. Wheelchair Football rules are for manually propelled wheelchairs, playing with 5 players per team, where the play devices mimic the able-bodied game as close as possible. Electra-football follows the same rules as above but is designed for players who have to use powerchairs. Powerchair Football rules are adapted from the above game rules playing with 4 players per team (or any other number, by agreement), but without a goalkeeper and is for more severely disabled players. This game is usually played with a larger size 9 ball, but the size 5 ball can also be used with the Go Push attachment. |
WHEELCHAIR FOOTBALL GAME CONCEPTThe following should be read in conjunction with the game rules. Wheelchair Football follows the principals of the small sided game rules, played in teams, with the object of winning the game by the team scoring the most goals. Like able-bodied football, good team work is essential, with players taking the ball towards the opponents' goal (dribbling), passing to other players, (collecting and holding), then shooting for goal, to beat the opposing goalkeeper. These basic elements of play are achieved with the Striker play device, as the ball can be trapped, held and manoeuvred with in any direction, before being shot (kicked) towards the goal. Football is a game of physical contact through the ball. Therefore blocking/tackling is an important element of the game and is clearly defined in Law 12. The buffer on all play devices is designed to allow for blocking/tackling. However, Striker play devices will also automatically eject the ball after a few seconds, so that players must move the ball between team members quickly, as in able-bodied football. ADAPTED WHEELCHAIRSThe Striker B-Chair (ball trapping, holding, shooting wheelchair) uses the patented **ball trapping, holding, shooting device taken from the Gobal game dodgem (bumper cars) amusement ride - see website gobalgame.com The spring loaded ball kicker will propel the ball approximately 20/30 metres (depending on the pitch surface), which combined with the 'wide mouth' and ball trapping/holding plate allows the ball to be dribbled (even when the chair is spun), passed, from one player to another or shot direct into the goal. The Winger B-Chair, using the same patented ball trap and hold device, but with a mechanical or electric ball release. 'Spin-n-sling' the ball by turning one wheel forwards and the other backwards, to 'spin' the B-Chair and sling the ball sideways in either direction as a football wing player. The Goalkeeper B-Chair is used to block the ball and includes a cup shape receiver to trap the ball. The player then reverses to release the ball, knock it back to other players or they may use their hands to collect the ball and then ROLL it back to other defender team mates. **Worldwide patents granted and pending. |
